BAYT AL MAFATIH
We will be fundraising for Bayt Al Mafatih, a grassroots organisation helping Palestinian survivors of genocide displaced in Cairo to rebuild their lives.
Since October 2023 100,000 Gazans have evacuated into Egypt, despite escaping the war and surviving genocide their hardships do not end when they arrive in Egypt.
Life in Egypt is extremely difficult to navigate, upon entering Egypt, Palestinians are given a 48 day visa, they have no right to work, children aren’t allowed to register in Egyptian schools and many landlords refuse to rent to Palestinians.
Most Gazans who have entered Egypt spent their life savings on evacuation fees and left with nothing but the clothes on their backs, many still have family members in Gaza.
Bayt Al Mafatih is working to provide families with 3 months’ rent and to cover the cost of essential needs. Their aim is to help these families become self sustainable by providing them with tools and resources they need to rebuild their lives so they no longer need external assistance.
The list of things Bayt Al Mafatih is doing is constantly expanding and evolving, some examples of their work include:
Providing families with:
• emergency food parcels
• good quality second hand clothes
• diapers and milk formula
• fans during the Cairo heatwave where temperatures reached 40C
• mattresses for children who have been sleeping on the floor for the last 10 months
• technology for children to help them study online
• educational toys and fun days for children to process their trauma with play
• helping professionals find remote employment opportunities and supporting entrepreneurs re-establish businesses.
• finding doctors who will provide pro-bono treatment, medical support and specialist referrals.
• providing psychologist referrals for adults and children suffering from PTSD.
• distributing meat and sweets during Eid.
